Friday 20 Minute dash – speed cleaning

A little while ago I was introduced into the world of youtube  by my daughter, she showed me all these great videos of people recording their daily life and I was hooked.  I like to watch mummy vlogs, I watched so many ‘Daily routines’, ‘Cleaning routines’, ‘Speed cleaning’ and ‘Power hour’ videos. I loved them and decided to try it for myself,  well it was a big fat fail as after 30/40 minutes I was in so much pain with my leg I had to stop. It was quite depressing that I actually couldn’t do it so I decided to modify it a bit, I know that doing 30 minutes was too much and would cause me pain so I decided I would try a 20 minute dash instead, This worked great, I could do these twice a week if needed and it wouldn’t cause me that much pain.

so this is where were at now. I always do a 20 minute dash on a Friday evening, normally when the children have gone to bed but on this occasion as its half term they were still awake.

I have come to realise that 20 minutes actually is not that long and time goes very quickly. I try to get 2 rooms done and a few little tasks/jobs done within that 20 minutes.

My list this time was as follows:

  • Tidy the toys in the living room.
  • Pick up all the washing.
  • Put a load of washing on.
  • Dust in the living room.
  • Empty the dishwasher.
  • Reload the dishwasher
  • Clear and wipe down the sides in the kitchen.
  • Water the plants.
  • Take the rubbish out.

I set my timer for 20 minutes and off I went, I started in the living room as this is where most of the toys where and I find once all the toys are put away its much easier to actually clean, once that was done I moved around the rooms collecting all the items to go into the dishwasher and picking up clothes to go into the washing machine. I like to keep the kitchen clean as much as I can but hubby had cooked dinner that night, he is a great cook but he is also a messy cook, After the kitchen was done, I went around and done the little jobs like putting the washing on, watering the plants, taking the rubbish out and dusting.

While I was doing my 20 minute dash I had a toddler joining me, she loves to help me and we turn it into a game.

I actually managed to get all of my jobs done this time. I have a habit of making a big list and not getting it all done in the dash. Below are the pictures of the rooms after I had finished the dash.

I would love for you to leave me a comment  below or upload a picture of your 20 minute dash/power hour. Let me know if there is anything you would like me to cover in my next blog post. xx
